LG Voyager VX1000 Quick Review

So I’ve had my LG Voyager VX1000 for about a month now from Verizon Wireless and just wanted to post a few thoughts. When I first got the phone, the first thing I loved that the Apple Iphone didn’t offer was the touch vibration. Whatever icon I touch on the touch screen it gives me a vibration feedback which doesn’t give it a leg up or anything over the Iphone, I just think it’s a nice feature. At first it took a little getting used to and I was contemplating returning it, but the more I used it the more I began to really like it. The build quality of the phone seems to be a high point, and the user interface is actually pretty attractive, although of course those nutty Apple fans would disagree. For $5 a month you can get the email service activated where it’ll connect to multiple POP3 or IMAP email account and alert you each time a new email comes in. From that point you can also read the message as well or just ignore it. I must say though, the Iphone handles this much better. The standard ringtones aren’t anything great but the ringtones are pretty loud which is a plus. Also, its been a while since I’ve had a phone that vibrates and rings at the same time so I’m glad to have that feature back. Another cool overlooked feature is it offers 3 alarm clocks, where for each one you can set it to go off once, daily, mon-fri, and weekends. This ends up being very convenient for me. The screen quality is great and the exterior and interior lcd is the same size.

I have the unlimited data plan and picture messaging is convenient with its 2 megapixel camera and the EVDO is blazing fast, one big advantage over the Iphone. The Internet is a full featured browser, with quick load times, and just like the Iphone its a touch screen scroll to navigate within the website. However, sometimes that can be a hassle when you are using your finger to touch a small button on the webpage, so you can navigate with a mouse if you open the phone and use the arrow buttons inside. The inside keyboard is very easy to use for text messaging, and provides easy access to all numbers, symbols, and letters without having to navigate within the phone’s menus. The speakerphone is very clear and loud, but unfortunately you have to have it open to use it. Reception and signal has been great, but that is why I’m using Verizon in the first place. The phone has a slot for an 8gb microsd where you can load videos, pictures, or mp3s. Unfortunately you can’t use your mp3’s as a ringtone, but the sound quality is good on the phone when listening to an mp3. A downside is that Verizon doesn’t allow you to connect your bluetooth phone with other carriers, and unlike the Iphone, the Voyager can not play youtube videos. Only m.youtube.com which has a lot less content.

I have been using www.myxertones.com which is a great website that offers free ringtones and wallpapers. The ringtones are a little quieter than the standard rings on the Voyager, but they sound nice. The wallpapers look excellent and if you have an unlimited data plan these are all free, which is great.

For $299 plus a $50 rebate, this phone is hard to beat for someone not business oriented that wants a cool multimedia gadget that offers a lot. A Full HTML browser, bluetooth, picture viewer, media player, music player, verizon navigation, mobile tv, and a 2.0 megapixel camera make this full featured phone a great addition to the Verizon lineup. And in my opinon, the ability to open the clamshell to type with a full Qwerty keyboard, makes this phone more worthy then an Apple Iphone.
